A Baltimore Boy & a Howard County Girl

Meet Frank & Ethel

Frank & Ethel are Erik & Mallorie Kristoffersen. They met in Old Ellicott City, MD at the once acclaimed Jordan’s Steakhouse. Mallorie had recently returned from New York and was working part-time as a hostess, while Erik was exploring the fine dining world of Howard County after recently leaving The Oceanaire in Baltimore, MD.

Not long after Erik introduced himself to Mallorie, they began dating and have been on the rocky road of love and life together ever since—just like our favorite sitcom couple! They look forward to sharing their passions with you and exploring what work and love look like together.

Just like those magical Christmas Eve open houses that Mallorie’s parents once shared with family and community—where strangers became cherished friends over the years—we believe in creating spaces where genuine connections happen naturally. Whether you’re here for microgreens, looking for help with a home transition, or curious about our children’s programs, we invite you to pull up a chair, grab some coffee, and stay a little longer. Get to know us better and discover what makes Frank & Ethel’s feel like home.

Mallorie is a ninth-generation Howard County native who grew up in Columbia, MD, before moving to Ellicott City just before her tenth birthday. With deep family roots stretching back through American history—including ancestors who served in World War II and Vietnam—she brings a profound understanding of community, democracy, and the values that bring people together across differences. A trained actor who studied theater design and acting at NYU’s Playwright’s Horizon Theater Studio, she combines her artistic background with her Master of Arts in Cultural Sustainability from Goucher College.

Her diverse professional journey has taken her from life insurance and real estate to helping families celebrate life’s moments at local floral shops and pottery studios. She’s found her most rewarding work at local furniture stores, where she discovered that helping people choose a sofa is really about helping them navigate relationships, comfort, and the life they want to create at home. Her background in Cultural Mediation has proven invaluable in understanding how people make decisions together and create shared meaning in their lives.

Through Culture of Home, Mallorie helps families navigate transitions with compassion, preserving stories while creating organized, purposeful spaces. At The Culture Lab, she designs programs that help children develop emotional intelligence and creativity through acting, design thinking, and guided play. Her work is driven by the central question: “Can we make being human a little easier?” She’s passionate about creating spaces where people can show up more authentically, where conversations shift from “What do you do?” to “What’s on your mind?” and “What sparks your joy?”

Our Vision

At Frank & Ethel’s, we believe in living a life full of wonder and play—doing so with good food and fun along the way, while cherishing the stories that connect us all. We’re a family-owned collection of businesses that brings people together through shared experiences, celebrating everyday culture, sustainable practices, and the stories that make us who we are.

Just like Lucy’s schemes always brought the gang together (even when they went hilariously wrong), we’re creating gathering spaces where neighbors and friends connect through meaningful relationships and shared adventures.
